Caleres office
The name Caleres comes from the Latin word calēre, meaning to glow with passion or intensity. It’s that passion that helped our founder, George Warren Brown, forever change the way the world felt about fit. Before our company was born, shoemakers typically made the same shoe for both the right and left foot and it was difficult to distinguish shoes made for men and women.
To preserve the founding spirit of our company, we integrated the *5* mark of our quality into our logo. Introduced in 1885, *5* was stamped on the bottom of our shoes and represented our promise of fit and comfort. The company paid $5 to the wearer if the stamp wore out.
